World Food Day/International Day for the Eradication of Poverty: Add to YOU(th) Report on Hunger & Poverty in Asia Pacific!

World Food Day/International Day for the Eradication of Poverty: Add to YOU(th) Report on Hunger & Poverty in Asia Pacific!

In 2010, 1.5 billion people were living on less than US$2.0 per day in the Asia Pacific region. Hunger and poverty are both violations of the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of individuals and their families, as protected for all people as human rights.

Food, water, work, health, education (and many more) are all basic rights that allow us to live in dignity.
We may not be able to feed everyone tomorrow, but as young people in Asia Pacific, YOU(th) can show the region that hunger & poverty are one of today’s biggest human rights violations and World Food Day (October 16)/International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17) is your chance to do it!
More Human Rights = Less Poverty It may seem weird to put the two together but poverty is actually the largest human rights violation today! Food, water, work, health, education (and many more) are all basic rights that allow us to live in dignity. What’s worst is that people living in poverty are usually stripped of rights to freedom of expression and political participation so they are left voiceless. More Human Rights will empower them to break through barriers and escape poverty!

DO SOMETHING

We want the world to know how serious hunger & poverty is in Asia Pacific by putting together a report by YOU(th) called Under US$2.0 Recipes – YOU(th) on Hunger & Poverty in Asia Pacific and we’re asking all of YOU(th) to contribute!!!
Since YOUth (especially in Asia Pacific!) are super creative, this report is going to be in the form of a cook book or a cooking show! Send your recipes now!
Got 3 seconds? Add to our cook book!
If you only have 3 seconds, then just share the ingredients that can be bought for, or under US$2.0 and the cooking instructions. Please send us a photo of the final dish if you can!
If you facilitate at least 5 friends to each submit a recipe (and photo if possible), then you will receive a certificate for facilitating World Food Day/International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with APYN as long as you provide their names and emails for verification!
Got 30 minutes? Add to our cooking show!
If you’re feeling very creative, then put on your chef’s hat and take a video of yourself cooking! Your video will be featured on the APYN Cooking Show on YouTube!
Anyone who sends a video will also receive a certificate for facilitating World Food Day/International Day for the Eradication of Poverty with APYN

Do Something For - World Habitat Day

World Habitat Day is coming up!

When forced evictions happen, families may not be able to afford another home and might have to live in slums or informal settlements - which are typically small and dirty with very bad access to water and electricity.
World Habitat Day happens on the first Monday of October, and this year it is on the 3rd of October, 2011.
It is a day to think about the state of our towns and cities, and more importantly to think about people and families forced out of their homes everyday for problems like natural disasters or corporate land and commercial projects.
Forced evictions are a human rights violation and it must end. It destroys more than people’s homes, it destroys lives.

DO SOMETHING

Like many communities around the world, some friends in Cambodia and China face the risk of forced evictions everyday and Asia Pacific YOU(th) can stand in solidarity with them by speaking up about what a home means.
3 seconds?
Think of ONE word (not sentences) to describe what a home means to YOU and add it below. We’ll collate all YOU(th) words into a picture to send in solidarity.
3 minutes?
Ask at least 3 of your friends each to give ONE word (not sentences) that describes home and add it below so they can join too.
30 minutes?
Ask yourself: What is a home to you? Is it your country, or somewhere where you feel safe? Is it where your family is? Or is it somewhere that has walls, a roof and a bed?
Answer this question with a drawing, a photo, or a video and upload it below and we will add it to Flickr for everyone to see and send to affected communities in Cambodia and China.
All your ideas and actions will be forwarded to affected communities in Cambodia and China through our friends at AI.
Get a certificate for facilitating World Habitat Day!
If you could involve 50 friends to each give you 50 words (not sentences), or 5 friends to each give you 5 photos/drawings, or make a video (all created by them), then you can get a certificate for facilitating World Habitat Day! Make sure you get their names and emails too so we can contact them to verify their participation!
